Thursday Ratings | The NRL returns to give Nine a big win

GOGGLEBOX AUSTRALIA gives 10’s primetime a necessary lift.


Channel 9

A Current Affair (456,000) leads for Nine, and then the night splits into NRL Thursday Night Football (455,000 (436,000 Nine BNE/SYD/MEL; 19,000 9Gem ADL/PER)) and Thursday Night Knock-Off (224,000 (224,000 Nine BNE/SYD/MEL; DNR 9Gem ADL/PER)); or RBT (111,000 (60,000 Nine ADL/PER; 51,000 9Gem BNE/SYD/MEL)), Paramedics (86,000 (42,000 Nine ADL/PER; 44,000 9Gem BNE/SYD/MEL)), and a repeat of Australia Behind Bars (87,000 (55,000 Nine ADL/PER; 32,000 9Gem BNE/SYD/MEL)) before coming back together for a repeat of A+E After Dark (80,000). It’s messy, but it garners Nine a solid win.

Nine first in both primary (22.3%) and network (29.6%) rankings.

Channel 7

Home & Away (450,000 7pm; 375,000 7:30pm-8:30pm) comes very close to winning 7pm for Seven, and offers a solid performance in primetime. It goes quiet after that with Code 1: Minute By Minute (165,000), Mayday: Air Crash Investigations (136,000), and a repeat of The Front Bar: All Sports Edition (35,000).

Seven second in both primary (17.6%) and network (26.1%) rankings.


Channel 10

The Project (162,000 6:30pm; 222,000 7pm) continues to shrink through the week, before a lift into Taskmaster Australia (309,000) and then blasting off into Gogglebox Australia (416,000). The Montreal Comedy Festival (119,000) draws a bit of an audience, and pivots into a repeat of Would I Lie To You? Australia (64,000).

10 third in both primary (12.2%) and network (18.8%) rankings.


ABC

7:30 (391,000) and Foreign Correspondent (259,000) kick off the ABC’s night, followed by reasonable interest in Grand Designs: The Streets (243,000). Repeats of Joanna Lumley’s Great Cities of the World (191,000), Movin’ to the Country (76,000), and Girl Like You (DNR) fill out the night.

ABC fourth in both primary (11.2%) and network (16.9%) rankings.

SBS

Coastal Ireland with Adrian Dunbar (150,000) gives SBS a good start, followed by the penultimate episode of American Presidency with Bill Clinton (51,000) and another ep of The Walk-In (27,000).

SBS fifth in both primary (3.8%) and network (8.6%) rankings.


KEY DEMOS

16-39: Thursday Night NRL Live (97,000) beat out Gogglebox Australia, Nine News 6pm/6:30pm, and Taskmaster Australia.

18-49: Thursday Night NRL Live (150,000) led Gogglebox Australia, Nine News 6pm, Taskmaster Australia, and Nine News 6:30pm.

25-54: Gogglebox Australia (187,000) takes the win ahead of Seven News 6:30pm, Nine News 6pm/6:30pm, and Seven News 6pm.


MULTI-CHANNELS

The Adventures of Paddington – EV (120,000) takes out the multi-channel race for ABC Kids/TV Plus.

One change to the previous week’s primetime line-up after the Total TV figures were added: Home and Away – Late (Seven) lifted 28% to 855,000; RBT (Nine) lifted 5% to 698,000; and Taskmaster Australia (10) lifted 23% to 497,000.

The BVOD best were Home and Away – Late (143,000) and Home and Away (142,000).
