Welcome to the Monday night’s episode of Australian Survivor 2023. 19 castaways remain, here’s a quick recap on the action of the Survivor Australia: Heroes vs Villains, S08 E05.

Cut another line in the hut, it’s day 10, Simon is sharpening his knife to cut George at the expense of testing his patience with everyone else.

Welcome to Switzerland, aka the heroes camp. In Switzerland, everyone is friends with everyone again. Now that Rogue has ousted herself from the game, Hayley is chuffed. She’s broken the winners curse.

5 episodes in, we finally get to know more about Benjamin Law queue the dramatic intro. Ben is the heroes fanboy equivalent of Michael and finds it fun making fake idols in front of his tribemates. Ben calls it arts and craft, the other heroes call it shifty AF.

You know who else is shifty? Shaun who stares at the ocean while his alliance searches for an idol located in his pocket.

After the cookie saga, JLP is determined to give the castaways diabetes before they return home with the survivor bakery full. When Shonee and Liz start quizzing on how artesian the artesian bread is, JLP shrugs:

“It’s AUSTRALIAN survivor, you get what you get and you don’t get upset.”

– Jonathan LaPaglia

Never change JLP.

Remember last year, when the alpha pairing of Mark vs Croc was done to death? This year’s repetitious pair-up is Shaun vs Stevie. Except this year, its hilarious watching tiny Stevie take on the Goliath himself, Shaun.

Shonee and Liz are left to dream about the organic-ness of the survivor bakery break when the heroes are crowned the breadwinners for reward.

Without Rogue, there’s not much drama in the hero tribe, so Shaun has volunteered to start stirring the pot. He suggests to the boys that Hayley might have the idol he has been secretly carrying the past couple days. Hayley pitches the idea of working with Shaun and he sees opportunity. Working with Hayley will shield him from being seen as the bigger target.

Fast forward to the challenge, where teams have push a giant flintstone-like cart down a path and race to set up a fire. As everyone struggles to push their heavy carts, they reflect on the life choices that ended them back on this show.

“This is why we came to back to survivor, to push heavy s***.”

George

The villians are used to starting drama fires, and with a sound strategy, they win the challenge.

You see last tribal was a practice round. Now the heroes have to start voting off people they like. Benjamin’s arts and crafts are making the heroes nervous and wanting to put his name down. Other’s are planning on putting Gerry and his injured ankle out of misery but if it wasn’t for his knee, they would be keeping him around. Everybody knows Simon is chasing after King George. Meanwhile at heroes camp, Sammy and David are as keen for Hayley’s.

We go to tribal council, not knowing where it’s going, this could be your standard send off of the injured or disliked player but no – THIS IS AUSTRALIAN SURVIVOR… Also the villains are three people down and have lost another player to injury.

JLP proposes the person with the most votes will be joining the villians for the next two days and before returning back to the heroes tribe if they are still here in two days. This could go very well or very badly.

Being the gold standard of an Aussie battler, Paige the jillaroo volunteers to go over the villain’s and be the James Bond of survivor spies. The castaways don’t see it this way, the need Paige and her loyalty. It’s better to write someone off.

With the chance of the double agent potentially not coming back, the heroes decided to write off Gerry. If he comes back, that’s great! But if he doesn’t… (shrugs)

“You just sent one of your own on a mission, you hope that it isn’t about to become mission impossible.”
