A late programming change has been made to honour one of the country’s greatest figures.
Nine has advised it will screen the cult hit film Grease tonight at 8:45pm, after The Block, on its main channel and 9Now.
It follows the news that Australian icon Olivia Newton-John died aged 73, following a decades-long battle with breast cancer.
Original programming had the premiere of a new season of The Hundred with Andy Lee in the 8:45pm timeslot, but that will be shifted to the same time next week.
Newton-John gained notoriety for her starring role as Sandy in Grease, opposite John Travolta. From her Aussie accent, to incredible vocals in iconic songs such as You’re The One That I Want and Hopelessly Devoted To You, she became a sensation across the globe.
The Grammy award winner was also known for other acting and singing achievements, such as the role of Kira in Xanadu and the hit song Physical.
Nine said the programming change was to “celebrate the amazing Australian” that was Newton-John.
Tributes have poured in for the star, including from Travolta, singer and actor Delta Goodrem (who played Newton-John in a Seven mini series), and Prime Minister Anthony Albanese.
It’s a shame it’s so late. Should have been before the block.
