The award-winning, proudly homegrown ABC TV series You Can’t Ask That wraps up its fifth season this week.
In this episode, we speak to kids. Every new generation is unique from the rest, but what things remain the same? 11-year-olds today were born after the invention of the iPhone, after Facebook and YouTube. As adults, we’ve grown accustomed to the ubiquity of technology – it’s crept up on us slowly.
But the new generation of kids have never known life without the internet or a smartphone. Are they a different species? In this funny, heart-warming and revealing episode, we speak to kids from around Australia – from the city to the country – about families, friendships, screen time, bullying, sex, death and the internet.
By asking the tough questions and empowering interviewees to answer in their own words with conviction, candour and humour, the series offers searing insights into the lives of Australians whose stories are often dismissed.
You Can’t Ask That is an ABC Production, which proudly demonstrates the ABC’s commitment to bringing diverse stories to screen. The series is produced and directed by Kirk Docker. Series Producer, Ali Russell. ABC Executive Producer, Frances O’Riordan.
