THIS WEEK ON 60 MINUTES

THERE’S SOMETHING ABOUT MEGHAN

When Princess Diana’s boy Harry fell in love with a gorgeous American starlet, people went aaahhh. Then things got even better. Prince Harry and Meghan Markle married and took on the role of Duke and Duchess of the world. But in a little over 12 months something has happened to drastically change the public mood. Maybe with the arrival of their son, Archie, the couple just want some more privacy. But there has been an unintended result – the tabloids have turned, and the blame game – much of it directed at Meghan – has been fierce. As Karl Stefanovic reports from London, the controversy is a major headache for the royal family.

EVIL ON THE OUTSIDE

There is no question that the most loathed man in Australia this week is Michael Guider. And rightly so. Thirty-three years ago he killed nine-year-old Bondi schoolgirl, Samantha Knight. Guider hid his crime for years, and when he was found out, claimed it was an accident. But even more cowardly, he refused to tell police what he did with her body. His pathetic excuse was he couldn’t remember where he dumped her. On Thursday, Guider was released from prison because his sentence had ended and there was nothing anyone could do to keep him inside any longer, Not Samantha’s mum Tess, nor any of his many other victims who have all tried so hard to keep the evil predator locked up.

THE SPRAY

When you think of the alarming public health scandals the world has endured, the curse of tobacco and asbestos quickly comes to mind. But now there seems to be another toxic villain, and incredibly, it’s likely to be sitting on a shelf in the backyard shed of most Australian families. Four years ago, the World Health Organisation warned that the herbicide Glyphosate, the main ingredient in weed killer Roundup, probably causes cancer. Created by chemical giant Monsanto, Roundup is the most widely used weed killer on Earth, sprayed on everything from tiny flower beds to vast fields of crops. Now, in a series of landmark verdicts, juries in America agree the stuff can kill. With the legal floodgates open, and the first Australian case looming, farmers and gardeners are holding their breath.

  1. 60 Minutes Australia and Stefanovic should be ashamed of themselves for giving airtime to a racist idiot like Katie Hopkins. Absolutely disgusting.
