This week on ABC Television sees the series 3 return of award winning and critically acclaimed comedy Please Like Me.

Created, written and starring comedian Josh Thomas, Please Like Me has developed into becoming the most entertaining and surprising comedy on Australian Television.

On one level Please Like Me takes on the role of a Generation-Y coming-of-age comedy similar to HBO’s Girls series in the US. However this programs ability to confront issues such as depression, aging, and mental disorder with such brutal honesty and humour makes it a far more compelling and sophisticated program than Lena Dunham could ever hope to create.

The first episode focuses on the challenges and issues surrounding the new romance developing between Josh and Arnold (played by Keegan Joyce) whom suffers from mental health and anxiety issues. The episode includes an honest, raw, and at times confronting sex-scenes between the two men, but it also includes some outstanding dialogue that is both blunt and highly amusing.

During episode one we get a brief chance to check in with the entire supporting cast, featuring actors Thomas Ward (Tom), Caitlin Stasey (Claire), Hannah Gadsby (Hannah), Debra Lawrance (Mum), David Roberts (Dad), and Renee Lim as Mae. There’s no doubt these characters will once again be given their chance to shine as the season develops, but this first episode is really all about Josh and Arnold.

While so much focus is placed on the quality of drama currently being produced in overseas markets, Please Like Me is a program that all Australians should take the time to watch and be equally proud of.

Please Like Me Season 3 Premieres Thursday, October 15 at 9.30 on ABC
