NETFLIX brings NFL history to Australian screens this week

Netflix will stream LIVE the first regular season NFL game played in Australia, with the San Francisco 49ers and Los Angeles Rams meeting at the Melbourne Cricket Ground on Friday, September 11.

The Week 1 clash will give Australian NFL fans a rare chance to watch a regular season game on home soil, while adding another live sporting event to Netflix’s streaming line-up.

Coverage of NFL Netflix Gameday will begin at 8.30am AEST, ahead of kick-off at 10.35am AEST.

The match between the 49ers and Rams marks the first time the NFL has staged a regular season game in Australia.

It will also be the first event in a broader run of 2026 NFL programming set to stream on Netflix.

According to Netflix, its NFL schedule will continue in the United States with the first Thanksgiving Eve game on November 25, followed by a Christmas Day doubleheader and a Week 18 regular season match-up on January 9.

The streaming service will also carry NFL Honors globally during Super Bowl week.

The games will be available to Netflix subscribers in more than 200 countries, with coverage offered in EnglishFrenchSpanishPortuguese and German.

Production of the games, along with the pre-game and post-game programs, will be handled by NBC Sports.

EverWonder Studio will serve as executive producer for Netflix.

The Melbourne fixture adds to Netflix’s use of the NFL as part of its live sports offering, with the Australian game forming part of a schedule that will also include major dates on the US football calendar.

NFL Netflix Gameday, featuring the San Francisco 49ers against the Los Angeles Rams, streams live from the Melbourne Cricket Ground on Netflix on Friday, September 11, with coverage from 8.30am AEST and kick-off at 10.35am AEST.
