Aaron Chen is heading to Apple TV, with the Australian comedian appearing alongside a stacked cast in new sports comedy film The Dink.

Apple has released the first trailer for The Dink, a comedy centred on former tennis prodigy Dusty Boyd, played by Jake Johnson, whose life takes an unexpected turn when he reluctantly embraces the fast-growing sport of pickleball.

The film stars Johnson alongside Mary Steenburgen and Ed Harris, with Aaron Chen featuring as part of an ensemble cast that also includes Patton Oswalt, Chloe Fineman, Chris Parnell, Ben Stiller and former tennis champion Andy Roddick.

Produced by Ben Stiller and directed by Josh Greenbaum, The Dink follows Dusty’s attempts to win back his father’s approval while navigating an increasingly bitter battle over the future of their suburban country club.

As his tennis career slips further into the rear view mirror, Dusty finds himself unexpectedly drawn into the pickleball craze he once mocked, forcing him to confront old rivalries and long standing personal failures.

Apple describes the film as a laugh-out-loud underdog story, blending sports comedy with family tensions, unlikely friendships and a healthy dose of midlife reinvention.

The Dink comes from director Josh Greenbaum, whose credits include Barb and Star Go to Vista Del Mar, with a script by Workaholics writer Sean Clements.

The Dink will premiere globally on Apple TV on Friday, 24 July.
