One of ABC News’ familiar on-air faces is signing off, with presenter and reporter Ruby Cornish announcing her departure from the national broadcaster after more than a decade.
Cornish revealed the news in a farewell message shared to LinkedIn, looking back on a journey that took her from the ABC’s cadetship program to roles across news, radio and current affairs, most recently with ABC News Channel.
In the post, she recounted a career that included roles across ABC News, ABC News Channel, triple j, Behind the News and The Drum, while thanking colleagues who had supported her throughout her time at the broadcaster.

She paid particular tribute to the people working behind the scenes, praising colleagues across editorial, production and technical teams who had helped shape both her career and the ABC’s daily output.
While reflecting on her departure, Cornish suggested her time with the broadcaster may not be over, noting that many former ABC employees eventually find their way back.
“The untethering from Aunty may be temporary. I’d like to think that our time together is not over. So many leavers become returners in due course.”
Cornish’s departure comes during a period of change at the national broadcaster, following the resignation of former ABC Director of News Justin Stevens in May and the recent departures of high profile journalists Virginia Trioli and Michael Rowland.
While Cornish did not reveal what comes next, she left the door open to a future return, describing her exit as a potentially temporary “untethering” from the broadcaster.
Never seen her before.
She’s a great host and a talented reporter. Amazing that she can do sign language AUSLAN as well. We nice to go down on as well.
