Apple TV+’s Acclaimed Series “For All Mankind” Secures Fifth Season and Spinoff “Star City”
Apple TV+ has confirmed that the esteemed space drama “For All Mankind” will return for a fifth season, following its well-received fourth instalment. In addition, the streaming service, in collaboration with creators Ronald D. Moore, Matt Wolpert, and Ben Nedivi, is set to broaden the series’ scope with a new spinoff titled “Star City”. Both productions are in partnership with Sony Pictures Television.
The executive producers Wolpert and Nedivi expressed their deepening interest in the Soviet space program, which has inspired the creation of “Star City”. This new series aims to delve into the secretive activities in a concealed city near Moscow, where Soviet space efforts were centered. “The deeper we go into the alternate history universe of ‘For All Mankind’, the more thrilling the narratives we can explore with our partners at Apple and Sony,” they stated.
Matt Cherniss, head of programming for Apple TV+, praised the series for its expansive and intricate world-building and compelling storytelling led by Moore, Wolpert, and Nedivi. “The universe of ‘For All Mankind’ has so much more to offer, and we are eager to explore these new horizons,” Cherniss added.
“Star City” promises to be a gripping thriller, revisiting the pivotal moments of the space race from a Soviet perspective. It aims to showcase the personal and professional trials of cosmonauts, engineers, and intelligence agents involved in these historic space endeavours. Wolpert and Nedivi will lead the project as showrunners, continuing their creative partnership with Moore and Davis of Tall Ship Productions.
Since its debut, “For All Mankind” has earned critical acclaim, with the fourth season achieving a perfect 100% Certified Fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes. The narrative has propelled into the new millennium, focusing on Mars colonization and the mining of asteroids, pivotal for Earth’s and Mars’ futures.
