A narrative of love and controversial decisions among elderly friends in Truelove, premiering on BBC First. A must-watch drama series this April.

BBC First has announced the premiere of the striking new drama TRUELOVE, scheduled to grace the screen on Sunday, April 7. A production that weaves a compelling love story with profound moral questions, the series features an impressive lineup including Lindsay Duncan and Clarke Peters.

TRUELOVE takes an innovative approach to storytelling, centering on a group of senior friends who confront the taboo subject of a dignified demise over suffering a prolonged and unbearable decline. This pact among friends unfolds into a narrative that challenges conventional views on love, friendship, and the right to make life’s final decision, as they age.

Originating from the creative minds behind ‘The End of the F*ing World’**, this intelligent thriller prompts a reevaluation of our perceptions of love and companionship in the later stages of life. The plot thickens with the introduction of Britain’s first high-ranking female police officer, Philippa Leach, now finding herself in the throes of retirement and an overwhelming sense of ennui.

The story gains momentum when Philippa reunites with Ken Holding, an old flame and SAS veteran, at a funeral. Both share a feeling of being adrift in their twilight years. This reunion sparks a controversial yet intriguing proposal among their circle of septuagenarian friends, humorously suggesting that Philippa and Ken would be ideally suited to fulfill their pact. However, what begins as a light-hearted conversation soon escalates into a serious commitment.

TRUELOVE distinguishes itself by featuring protagonists in their 70s, challenging and overturning ageist stereotypes through its engaging plot that promises suspense, humor, and romance. At its core, the series grapples with complex ethical dilemmas about the end of life, juxtaposed with a tender love story offering a second chance at love missed earlier in life.

The cast boasts renowned actors such as Lindsay Duncan (Under the Tuscan Sun, Made in Italy), Clarke Peters (The Wire, Treme), Sue Johnston (Brookside, Barbara Royle), Phil Davis (Trying), Peter Egan (Downton Abbey), Karl Johnson (Mum), Fiona Button (The Split), and Kiran Sonia Sawar (Murdered by My Father, Danny Boy).

For Australian viewers, BBC First is accessible through Foxtel and Fetch, ensuring a wide-reaching platform for this much-anticipated series.

TRUELOVE is set to premiere on Sundays at 7.30 pm from April 7 on BBC First and will also be available to stream through BINGE, Foxtel On Demand, and Fetch.
