The final chapter of NEMESIS reveals more insights into Scott Morrison’s leadership and legacy.
The concluding chapter of the docuseries “Nemesis,” exploring the tumultuous period of the Coalition’s nine-year reign, is set to air on Monday, 12 February at 8:00 pm on ABC and view.
This episode delves into the era under Scott Morrison, Australia’s 30th prime minister, whose tenure was marked by unexpected leadership changes, policy battles, significant elections, and the unprecedented challenges of a global pandemic.
Rising from the aftermath of a leadership challenge, Scott Morrison took the oath as prime minister, embarking on the challenging journey of consolidating a divided party and securing the nation’s confidence. Contrary to many within his party’s expectations, Morrison achieved what was dubbed the “miracle” election victory.
However, his leadership was not without controversy, including a poorly timed holiday during a national crisis and the government’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The series’ final instalment offers an intimate look at Morrison’s reflections on his most debated actions and decisions during his premiership. The episode features candid discussions with senior figures from Morrison’s cabinet, such as former treasurer Josh Frydenberg, and insights from ex-state premiers about their interactions with Morrison during the pandemic.
Despite the eventual easing of the health crisis, the subsequent election did not replicate the previous unexpected success.
Following “Nemesis,” viewers can gain further insights into the series’ creation in “Nemesis: Behind the Scenes” at 9:30 pm, featuring a conversation between Leigh Sales and the series’ reporter Mark Willacy. Over a year, Willacy conducted over 60 interviews with influential Coalition figures, from junior members to top officials, offering a comprehensive behind-the-scenes perspective of the series.
