The return of the ABC’s comedy Wednesday allows the returning classics to establish how we’ll compare them moving forward, and it’s good news for Aunty.

*** NOTE: NEW METRICS AND REPORTS ***

  • Total TV Overnight Top 30 and Consolidated 7 Top 30 reach is calculated using cumulative unique audiences watching 1 min of broadcast TV and 15 sec of BVOD.
  • Total TV National audience is calculated using the audience average for the program as time-coded by the Network across 5CM and all regional markets nationally watching on broadcast TV.
  • BVOD national audience is calculated using the total number of minutes watched (multiplied by co-viewing factor) divided by the length of the program.

PRIMETIME ANALYSIS

Nine’s Married At First Sight (2,476,000 reach | 1,312,000 avg) continued its winning ways unchallenged, with Seven’s Australian Idol (1,588,000 reach | 816,000 avg) doing its best to keep up. Channel 10 offered up Ambulance Australia (826,000 reach | 329,000 avg) and while way off the pace kept its own reasonable audience.

For the commercial 7pm offerings, it was the now usual spread:
A Current Affair (1,631,000 reach | 1,073,000 avg) on Nine
Home and Away (1,159,000 reach | 768,000 avg) on Seven
The Project (651,000 reach | 286,000 avg) on 10.

The ABC’s comedy Wednesday bounced back with the season nine return of Hard Quiz (949,000 reach | 724,000 avg) and the season ten return of The Weekly with Charlie Pickering (932,000 reach | 653,000 avg), both performing well as they set their new benchmarks under the new VOZ system.

The Weekly’s return fared reasonably well up against the return of Nine’s Under Investigation (1,401,000 reach | 518,000 avg), and blitzed Seven’s S02 FTA premiere of Below Deck Down Under (807,000 reach | 296,000 avg), and a new ep of FBI: International (523,000 reach | 164,000 avg) on 10.
