British medical journalist and chronic insomniac, Dr Michael Mosley, returns to Australian screens to present this personal journey alongside Australia’s most challenged sleepers participating in a ground-breaking 8-week sleep treatment program by Flinders University Sleep Institute.

The series aims to unveil the critical science behind common sleep disorders, including insomnia and sleep apnoea, and their severe implications on health, such as increased risks of high blood pressure, cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, depression, and reduced life expectancy.

Australia’s Sleep Revolution also takes an unprecedented step by assessing the sleep quality of Australian politicians at Parliament House, featuring names like Jacqui Lambie, Barnaby Joyce, Josh Wilson, and Mike Freelander. The move seeks to spotlight sleep health as a national concern.

Furthermore, the series delves into the excessive use of sleeping pills and addresses the sleep and mental health crisis among Indigenous youth in Mount Isa, Queensland. Dr Mosley expressed his enthusiasm for the series, emphasizing the importance of quality sleep for health and his personal connection to the subject through his battle with insomnia.

Bernadine Lim, SBS’s Senior Commissioning Editor for Documentaries, and Professor Danny J. Eckert from Flinders University, along with other notable figures such as Richard Huddleston from Screen Australia, Melissa Hayward from Screenwest, and Kate Croser from the South Australian Film Corporation (SAFC), have all praised the series for its innovative approach and the potential to significantly impact viewers’ understanding and management of sleep.

Produced by Artemis Media with major funding from Screen Australia, SBS, Screenwest, Lotterywest, and the SAFC, the documentary not only aims to educate and inspire but also to provide hope to those struggling with sleep disorders. The series will be accessible for streaming with subtitles in multiple languages, enhancing its reach and impact. Additionally, a special Dr Michael Mosley Collection will be launched on SBS On Demand alongside the series premiere.
