Canberra will tonight play host to the Australian of the Year Awards. The ceremony, to be broadcast live from the National Arboretum at 7.30pm AEDT, will be presided over by journalist Leigh Sales.
ABC is set to provide extensive coverage of the event across various platforms, including ABC TV, ABC iview, the ABC NEWS channel, and ABC Radio. This prestigious event aims to honour the remarkable contributions and achievements of Australians who made a significant impact in 2023.
A total of 34 exceptional individuals are in the running across four distinguished categories:
- Australian of the Year
- Senior Australian of the Year
- Young Australian of the Year
- Australia’s Local Hero
The highlight of the event will be the award presentations by the Prime Minister, the Hon Anthony Albanese. The ceremony will culminate in the much-anticipated reveal of the Australian of the Year 2023.
Furthermore, the morning following the awards, on January 26 at 8.30am local time, ABC Radio local stations will feature an exclusive 30-minute interview with the newly crowned Australian of the Year.
