In the latest episode of The Block, the teams are hustling to finalize wet areas and more crucially, rectify their biggest mistakes.
While some are dealing with weather-related damage, others are looking to align their projects with the home’s aesthetic. One team, however, found themselves overwhelmed by a redo room, resulting in some unexpected challenges.
The clock ticks with 36 hours left for the upstairs bathroom and redo rooms, and predictably, not all Blockheads are managing the pressure.
For Kristy and Brett, what was expected to be a manageable task turned into a complete debacle. Tasked with merely tiling over an arch in their redo bathroom, Brett made the ill-fated decision to remove the back wall, subsequently jeopardizing the room’s waterproofing.
As Foreman Dan bluntly put it, this was a “$30,000 mistake.” Instead of attempting to salvage the situation, they surrendered and handed over an unfinished room to the scrutinizing eyes of the judges.
Their despondency was evident, yet Scott didn’t mince words, stating they should have put in more effort:
“They could have tried harder to fix the redo room.”
Come Saturday, Scott announces “tools down”, with every team except for Kristy and Brett unveiling their completed rooms.
House No.1’s Kyle and Leslie plunged $23,898 into their renovations. Welcoming back judge Neale, their new living room got nods of approval. Yet, their bathroom raised eyebrows, with Neale’s observation, “It just works!”, contrasting Shaynna’s critique that the lone tub’s adjacent toilet “deserved a better view.”
House No.2’s Leah and Ash allocated $26,118 for their revamp. Their audacious downstairs transformation got Neale’s nod, praising it as a space that “compliments Leah’s bold styling choices“. The bathroom was well-received, save for Shaynna’s lament about the missed bay window seating.
House No.3’s Kristy and Brett, despite a $28,603 investment, faced a wave of criticism. Their redo room drew Darren’s humorous yet stinging remark: “This isn’t a redo room, it’s an undo room!” Their kids’ bathroom, while showing promise, led Neale to note its unfulfilled potential but he hoped it would eventually turn into a “great bathroom.”
House No.4’s Steph and Gian, investing $28,603, earned acclaim for their redo bathroom. Shaynna, however, pointed out its lack of face-level storage. Their “Jack and Jill” kids’ bathroom garnered mixed reactions. Despite the elegance, Shaynna found the lighting “gloomy”, urging a re-think on functionality.
House No.5’s Eliza and Liberty, with a spend of $28,664, managed to turn their studio from drab to fab. The bathroom got a thumbs-up, but Neale couldn’t help but comment on the styling being “juvenile and tokenistic.”
