Network 10 have today confirmed an exclusive TV Blackbox story, that a Late News bulletin will return to the networks evening schedule in 2024, almost 10 years since it was last on air.

In a statement provided to TV Blackbox today, a network spokesperson said:

“10 News First will return to a one-hour bulletin from 5pm to 6pm weeknights and Network 10 will welcome back a late news bulletin which will be available as a digital offering first on 10 Play then broadcast on 10.

“Network 10 will continue to produce 90 minutes of news nightly. Additional exciting programming changes will be announced later in October.”

The news was first broken by Kevin Perry here at TV Blackbox last month, who wrote that the late news bulletin was being brought back in a strategic move that is designed to target viewers who are not able to watch the earlier news bulletins.

Staff were also recently informed that the network would have a greater focus on news in the new year, with further announcements regarding programming to come during the annual Upfronts to be held later this month at events across the country starting with Sydney on October 24.

As a result of the changes to the shortening of the flagship 5pm evening bulletin, it will come as welcome news to Queensland viewers with the network able to return to delivering viewers there a fully live & local bulletin, albeit presented from Sydney, for half of the year during daylight savings.

These changes come at a time where the network is making further changes to it’s early evening line-up from next year, with the network set to premiere a rebooted version of popular game show Deal Or No Deal (casting now) with the network set to shortly confirm another TV Blackbox exclusive story by Rob McKnight at their upfronts event.

The changes are likely due to the changing viewing patterns of todays audiences, as well as to address the continued decline in viewership of the networks early evening line-up which currently consists of News from 5:00pm – 6:30pm and The Project from 6:30pm – 7:30pm before their evening entertainment schedule starts.

The network has also done a switcheroo of it’s pre news line-up from tonight, moving the ‘new era’ look Neighbours earlier to 4:00pm and reinstating The Bold and The Beautiful to it’s original home of 4:30pm following weeks of low viewership and demand from loyal audiences.

  1. The late news bulletin want work 10 needs to move 10News first at 5pm because it’s not working anymore deal or no deal want work at 6pm it should be on at 5:30pm weeknights the project needs to be cancelled as it’s not working anymore the ratings are way low 10 should put neighbours on at 6pm on Network 10 they just want listen to viewers

  2. Network Ten just don’t care what viewers say what they should do if they listen to viewers it might work

  3. Ten went to the crapper after moving The Simpsons from 6pm.

Seriously though, their news service is terrible and cheap.

  4. Who ever is running 10 doesn’t no what they are doing CBS needs to start running it I still definitely think Channel 10 should consider moving 10 Years 1st to 6:30pm neighbours on at 6 pm, deal or no deal at 5:30pm because it’s not going to work at 6 o’clock I can tell you that now because people watch news at 6pm and I want to see Channel 10 succeed and become a better network, because I like channel 10 and it should become the entertainment network again

  5. overall i think the move by 10 to go back to a 60 mintue bulleting is a good on but what 10 also looking is opening regional Bureaus in major Regional Ctiies and Having Regional Bulletins at 5:30pm and totally dumping the Project

  6. Really wish 10 would drop the “News First” branding and just call it 10 News again. I don’t think there’s been a single story that 10 has broken first through their news bulletins since they rebranded in 2018. If anything it’s usually the project that has access to those breaking stories first and even then they both rate terribly..

  7. Ten news need to make more changes. A 90 min news bulletin is too long. The last 30 mins is full of repeated news. As well, Brisbane viewers want news from local studios, and not from Sydney studios. It was a mistake to get rid of Georgina Lewis 3 years ago. There are other talent like Emmy kubainski (who left 9 Perth in 2017) that could do 10 news QLD.
