Everything old is new again… including the famous suitcase show.

Popular gameshow Deal or No Deal is set to return to Australian TV screens on a new network.

Rumours have been circulating about a new version, which is set to air on Channel 10 and is likely to be announced at the annual Upfront event later this year.

TV Blackbox understands production company Endemol Shine has been pitching a ‘Deal or No Deal meets Survivor’ format, which has been picked up by an American network.

But sources say the version to air on Channel 10 in 2024 will be a revised version of the original stripped format which aired on Channel 7 at 5pm Weekdays, after launching as a weekly show at 7.30pm.

Deal or No Deal was produced for Channel 7 from 2003 – 2013, with episodes remaining on air until 2015 before the show was axed.

Original host, Andrew O’Keefe, is not set to host as he is still facing ongoing legal issues related to claims of domestic violence and drug addiction issues.

It’s believed Channel 10 is looking to air the show at 6pm weekdays, which poses an interesting question about the future of The Project.

What does this mean for the future of The Project?

In an earlier version of this story, I hypothesised that a one-hour edition of Deal would impact The Project, which currently airs at 6.30pm.

The news program has seen a big decline in audience numbers over the past few years and is an expensive program to make, even though the budget was drastically reduced during the last contract negotiation with Roving Enterprises.

I have since been told there will be no changes to The Project in 2024, meaning Deal will be a 30 minute show from 6pm – 6.30pm.

That is the same timeslot Family Fued occupied, although it aired across 3 channels at the beginning of its run, leading to an inflated ratings figure.

The network finally responded to TV Blackbox this morning to inform us they had no comment.

In my book that is usually a good indication the story is correct!
