Sonia and Marcus faced a rollercoaster of a Tuesday night on My Kitchen Rules (MKR).
Their entrée of Crumpets with Buttered Lobster didn’t quite nail it due to a crucial missing element: butter.
Aiming for a comeback, they began working on their main dish of Squid Ink Linguine. However, trouble brewed when Marcus neglected to separate the pasta sheets. Judge Colin Fassnidge intervened with timely advice: “Why don’t we flour all our sheets, dry them up, get enough flour there,” effectively saving the dish.
Guests at the table were eagerly anticipating a culinary delight. Claudean stated, “She’s Italian, there’s no way in the world that Sonia can get this wrong.” But when the pair emerged from the kitchen, their faces told a different story. According to Nick and Christian, “Sonia looks defeated. It looks like they had a really difficult cook.”
The dish was served, but it was visibly dry. Judge Manu Feildel pinpointed the issue: “Like your entree, there was stress, and I can tell you now stress always ends up in the plate. Always.”
Just when Sonia considered giving up, a stirring pep talk from Manu rekindled their spirits: “One of you needs to take charge in this kitchen and one of you needs to zip it and follow.”
This gave rise to a new dynamic. Sonia took the lead and Marcus played a supportive role. Their teamwork culminated in a standout dessert—Margarita Bombe Alaska. Marcus stated, “Chef for this dish is mum. My role, my only role, was to make sure that chef could do her thing.”
The final dish was lauded by all, including Victoria’s Tommy who coined it as “This is what redemption tastes like.” Manu described the dessert as a “bomb,” and even Colin gave it a rare compliment, “I actually put a little smile on my plate. It’s very rare you see that.”
They landed in second place with a total score of 71/110, divided as 43 from the judges and 28 from the guest teams. Their dessert alone earned two perfect tens from the judges.
Tune in tomorrow for another episode of MKR featuring identical twins Radha and Prabha, who aim to win over Manu and Colin with their traditional Indian family recipes.
