Wednesday night on The Block featured multiple setbacks as looming challenges dominated the teams’ agendas.
Eliza and Liberty face unexpected obstacles, while Steph and Gian reluctantly part with their spa. Meanwhile, House 3’s Brett struggles to stay focused after discovering the need for significant home repairs.
As the week comes to an end, host Dan alerts the contestants about impending heavy rainfall, urging them to weatherproof their homes. While some contestants take the warning seriously, others dismiss it. Hosts Scott Cam and Shelley Craft also drop by for their weekly inspections, offering advice and noting varying degrees of progress among the teams.
Brett and his wife Kristy from House 3 are dealing with numerous challenges, including the need to re-stump their house and fix poorly constructed brickwork. Kristy summarizes the situation, stating, “We are where we usually are on a Monday, on a Thursday.” By Friday, Kristy admits, “We’re not finishing this room.”
As the week progresses, Dan attempts to prepare everyone for an upcoming storm, stating, “There’s still hope,” albeit without much conviction.
His recommendation is that everyone should remove any plaster ceilings in the older parts of the houses. House 1’s Kyle acknowledges the time-sensitive nature of the task: “You don’t have the flexibility of time.”
For Brett, this new development deflates his spirits. “I was trying to be positive, but now I’m a bit over it,” he states.
During Scott and Shelley’s visit, the two hosts find Eliza and Liberty’s wall plans concerning. Scott advises, “This worries me,” and Shelley concurs that the idea is good but the execution requires improvement. Liberty takes this to heart and later consults with Shelley and Alice from Domain to gain a better understanding of what “luxe” can look like.
House 2’s Ash takes a cavalier attitude towards the weather warning. He remarks, “That’s not much,” and, “We get that in five minutes [back home in Queensland].” However, Dan reiterates the importance of weatherproofing, stating, “We don’t want rain coming through those ceilings.” In response, Ash appears nonchalant, enjoying his noodles.
House 1 receives a warning for creating noise disturbances, with the team acknowledging it’s their first and final warning. During Scott and Shelley’s visit, a second warning regarding budget issues is issued. In contrast, Leah and Ash from House 2 are praised for their management skills, prompting Leah to jokingly caution against a “jinx.”
Steph and Gian from House 4 attempt to auction off their inherited spa, initially hoping for thousands of dollars. The final bid comes from the series producer at $500, to which Steph replies, “A bargain.”
Finally, Cyclone Ilsa hits the site, creating an atmosphere of urgency and concern. Will House 2 face the repercussions of their lax approach to weatherproofing? Time will tell.
