The ABC board has announced that Managing Director David Anderson has been reappointed for a second term of five years, effective from July 1, 2023.

David Anderson was initially appointed to the position in May 2019 and was set to serve until May 2024.

The confirmation comes as part of a move “to end speculation about the tenure,” according to an ABC statement, particularly following the recent announcement that ABC Chair Ita Buttrose will not be seeking reappointment.

Communications Minister Michelle Rowland confirmed that Ms Buttrose will leave her role in March 2024. She has served as chair since 2019.

Anderson, who has more than three decades of experience in the media industry, first joined ABC in 1989 and previously served as director of entertainment & specialist.

Over the years, he has been instrumental in guiding the organisation toward a digital-first approach, focusing on on-demand services to better serve the audience.
