The latest episode of RESTORATION AUSTRALIA delves into the restoration of a 90-year-old Queenslander house named Dorothy.
Hosted by Architecture Professor Anthony Burke, the episode follows Rosemary Leonard and Rafaele Joudry as they endeavour to make the building energy efficient while maintaining its heritage.
The couple purchased land in an eco-village located on the Central Coast of New South Wales, before embarking on the task of relocating Dorothy to her new home. Although she originated in a tropical setting, Dorothy will now need to meet the stringent energy efficiency standards set by the eco-village.
The episode examines the challenges the couple faces in balancing the need for modern, energy-efficient modifications with preserving the architectural and historical features of the house. Leonard and Joudry have committed to achieving a high energy-efficiency rating for the Queenslander, although the undertaking has proven to be complex and potentially expensive.
Anthony Burke traverses the nation throughout the series, offering expert advice and support to those taking on such ambitious restoration projects. Series 5 continues to highlight single-minded enthusiasts who are revitalising Australia’s most cherished old buildings.
