The highly-regarded UEFA Super Cup is set to kick off the 2023-2024 UEFA season this Thursday on Stan Sport. This competition traditionally brings together Europe’s elite football clubs, culminating in an ultimate showdown that determines the top team on the continent.

This year’s contest showcases Premier League champions Manchester City, who recently clinched the sought-after ‘English treble’ by securing the UEFA Champions League, English Premier League, and FA Cup titles. Notably, they are only the second club in history to achieve this feat.

In the opposing corner stands Sevilla, who have stamped their authority on the UEFA Europa League by securing their 7th title – a remarkable achievement that outstrips any other club in the competition’s history by more than two-fold.

While Manchester City’s track record against Sevilla in UEFA club competitions leans in their favour, the recent appointment of José Luis Mendilibar as Sevilla’s coach in March 2023 has bolstered the team’s prospects. Under his leadership, Sevilla reached a milestone by ousting Manchester City’s local rivals, Manchester United, during their victorious Europa League campaign.

The neutral battleground for this epic encounter is the Karaiskakis Stadium in Greece. Fans can anticipate a thrilling display as footballing giants from both teams, including Manchester City’s Erling Haaland and Jack Grealish, match up against Sevilla’s formidable duo of Ivan Rakitić and Érik Lamela.

Coverage commences at 4:35am AEST on Thursday, with Max Rushden as the host. He will be joined by former Socceroos Craig Foster and Mark Bosnich, who will be imparting their expert insights on the game.

Football enthusiasts should note that the UEFA season continues its momentum on Stan Sport. August 31 will see the unveiling of the 2023/2024 season Group Stage Draw, and the actual Group Stages will commence from September 20. Stan Sport remains the exclusive broadcaster for all UEFA Champions League, UEFA Europa League, and UEFA Europa Conference League matches, with selected fixtures available in crisp 4K UHD.
