Production has commenced for the third instalment of the crime thriller series, “THE TOWER”.
Titled “THE TOWER 3: Gallowstree Lane”, the upcoming series is an adaptation of Kate London’s third novel and is penned by acclaimed screenwriter Patrick Harbinson, known for his work on “Homeland”, “Fearless”, and “24”. Windhover Films, founded by Harbinson in January 2021, and the renowned Mammoth Screen are producing the series. ITV’s Head of Drama, Polly Hill, commissioned the series.
Gemma Whelan will be reprising her role as DS Sarah Collins. The cast will also feature Tahirah Sharif, BAFTA-nominated for her portrayal as PC Lizzie Adama in the debut series, alongside Jimmy Akingbola as DC Steve Bradshaw and Emmett J Scanlan as DI Kieran Shaw.
Patrick Harbinson shared his enthusiasm about the new series highlighting a high-stakes drugs and gangs narrative. He revealed that the characters played by Jimmy and Emmett would have significant roles. Sarah and Lizzie’s stories will add dramatic depth to the series, bringing the Portland Tower narrative full circle.
Mammoth Screen and Windhover Films will collaborate with ITV Studios for this four-part drama. Alongside Harbinson, Mammoth Screen’s Damien Timmer and Charlotte Webber are set to executive produce. The direction is under Rene van Pannevis, with Charles Bates on production duties. Polly Hill supervises the drama’s production for ITV.
“THE TOWER” has an impressive global footprint, with its first series being distributed across more than 90 international territories, thanks to ITV Studios. HBO Europe, Canal+, BritBox North America and Australia, Virgin Media Ireland, and TVNZ are among the notable platforms to secure broadcast rights.
