The annual National Indigenous Music Awards (NIMAs) 2023 will be gracing screens nationwide, broadcast live by NITV from the Darwin Amphitheatre on Larrakia Country.
Celebrating the cream of First Nations music talent, the event will see Fred Leone and Elaine Crombie taking the helm as co-hosts.
Among the musical luminaries performing on the evening will be Thelma Plum, Djanaba, Budjerah, Kobie Dee, Dean Brady and Ngulmiya.
The event will not only showcase musical prowess but also serve as a testament to the richness of Indigenous cultures, with Adam Manovic, Head of Entertainment, Events and Sport at NITV stating,
“Music has always been an important part of our people’s Cultures… We look forward to celebrating the incredible talents of our First Nations music community once again.”
A particular highlight of this year’s NIMAs is ARIA-winning singer songwriter Budjerah, leading the finalists list with nominations for Artist of the Year, Song of the Year, and Film Clip of the Year. Rising stars, Wildfire Manwurrk, have also secured nominations in three categories – New Talent of the Year, Film Clip of the Year and Community Clip of the Year.
The members of Wildfire Manwurrk have expressed their gratitude for the recognition, affirming the significance of music as a medium for Indigenous voices. The audience can also anticipate a special performance from co-host Fred Leone who will premiere his latest single ‘Yirimi Gundir’.
The event will also see Jessica Mauboy, a finalist for Artist of the Year, presenting an award.
