In the exciting Tuesday night conclusion to the Million Dollar Island series, three contestants, Brett, Chelsea, and Jordan, faced the daunting task of selecting from 42 boxes, each mostly filled with $10,000.
The twist was a Beat-the-Bomb-style jeopardy, where discovering a booby-trapped bomb would annihilate their accumulated cash.
Host, Ant Middleton, clarified in the finale that the contestants would be given an opportunity to convert the money from their wrist bracelets into cash.
A total of 100 boxes corresponded to the 100 bracelets available in the game. The contestants were informed that opening each box could potentially add at least $10,000 to their prize money. However, three menacing bombs were hidden in the boxes, jeopardising the contestants’ chances of securing a substantial cash prize.
Jordan had the first go, having amassed 27 bracelets throughout the series. After cautiously opening six boxes, he decided to quit, taking home $70,000, inclusive of his guaranteed $10,000 bonus.
Next was Brett, who entered the final with 31 bracelets, thus having a minimum of $310,000 at stake. After successfully opening 10 bomb-free boxes, Brett was faced with the choice of 21 remaining boxes. His decision to go with Box 13 proved disastrous as he triggered a bomb, losing $100,000.
“I didn’t win it, but hey,” he remarked, “I played the game and the game played me.” He, however, managed to retain his initial $10,000.
The final contestant was Chelsea, who was the wealthiest player in the game. Despite successfully opening 10 boxes and accumulating $100,000 plus her $10,000 guaranteed bonus, she opted to play safe and walk away from the game. As a result, Chelsea emerged as the winner of Million Dollar Island.
“I’ve never even come close to having 110K in my bank account. I’m happy; I’m stoked,”
an elated Chelsea declared. She added,
“To come out on top as the winner… You work so hard, smash the challenges [and] end up with all the friends in the world. It’s a great feeling.”
Jordan took home $70,000, while Brett, after a significant gamble, ended up with his guaranteed $10,000.
Fixer of a ending. All those challenges and bracelets for it to end in a game of chance.
Geez all that for a game of chance!
Could have made the show in two episodes! 🤣
Great new show!
I hope it comes back for another series!
