ABC has confirmed a premiere date for its audacious new Australian comedy series, ‘Gold Diggers’, set to stream from Wednesday, 5th July, at 9.10pm on ABC TV and ABC iview.
Promising a rich blend of humour and historical context, the series takes audiences back to the Australian Gold Rush of the 1850s.
The comedy centres on the Brewer sisters, Gert and Marigold, portrayed by Claire Lovering (Class of ’07, Wellmania) and Danielle Walker (Taskmaster, Get Krack!n’), respectively. The sisters, one a heavy-drinking sociopath and the other her innocent, naïve sibling, venture into the goldfields with the dream of striking it rich, not by finding gold, but by finding newly-rich fools.
Their journey is fraught with trials as they grapple with the rowdy miners, unsanitary conditions, and rampant misbehaviour of the era.
The duo’s colourful adventures involve a dubious French ex-BFF, Fran (Megan Wilding), a wealthy mining magnate, Percy (Luke Mullins), his overprotective butler, Jerome (Wil King), and a knowing barkeeper, Barry (Eddie Perfect).
The series features a diverse and dynamic ensemble cast, including Perry Mooney in her breakout role as Vic, the leader of the local fur traders.
Other characters include Leonard, the town’s potential incel policeman (Brandon McClelland), Molly (Kartanya Maynard), Albert (Aaron McGrath), Zhi Ling (JJ Fong), Ben (George Zhao), Kelvin (Semisi Cheekam), Tippy (Michala Banas), and JJ (Lincoln Younes), the leader of the feared McCreedy Bushrangers.
Filmed in the Victorian goldfields and Melbourne, ‘Gold Diggers’ is a production of KOJO Studios and Stampede Ventures in partnership with CBS Studios International for ABC Australia, supported by investment from VicScreen and SAFC. Executive producers for the series include Kate Butler, Linda Ujuk, Dale Roberts, JP Sarni, Greg Silverman, Lindsey Martin, Brett Sleigh, and ABC’s Head of Comedy, Todd Abbott. The series will be distributed internationally outside of Australia by Paramount Global Content Distribution.
