Paramount+ has today confirmed that the highly successful Australian series, Last King of The Cross, will be returning for a riveting second season.
The show, which was the most watched local series on the platform, earned lead actor Lincoln Younes a nomination for Most Popular Actor at the 63rd TV Week Logie Awards. The series’ international acclaim has seen it picked up by Paramount+ in Canada, among other territories.
The second instalment will delve deeper into the intoxicating and perilous world of Kings Cross, and promises to keep viewers on tenterhooks. The series continues to chart the expansion of John Ibrahim’s empire into the burgeoning queer nightclub scene of the 2000s, a time defined by the ecstasy craze. As the stakes escalate, a wide range of characters, including John’s two younger brothers, are drawn into the fray.
Daniel Monaghan, SVP, Content and Programming at Paramount ANZ, expressed his excitement about the upcoming season. He underscored the Australian audience’s love for local narratives, a fact that contributed to the popularity of Last King of The Cross. He further remarked,
“It is titles like this that makes us proud to have our local commissions with universal themes, compelling, propulsive storylines, world class Australian talent and high-quality production values, contribute to Paramount+’s mountain of exclusive content, on an international scale.”
The series is produced by HELIUM Pictures for Paramount+ Australia, with Cineflix Rights handling the exclusive international distribution.
Mark Fennessy of HELIUM expressed his enthusiasm about the second season, describing it as “bigger, bolder, and even more action-packed”.
He further added that the global success of the series has reinforced HELIUM’s commitment to narrating enthralling stories on a grand scale. The second season, Fennessy promises, will introduce unforgettable characters and explosive action in narratives that resonate with audiences worldwide.
