ABC, FOXTEL and STAN lead the pack in 2023 LOGIE NOMINATIONS

As Australian viewers increasingly move away from commercial free-to-air Television, The ABC, Foxtel and Stan have all performed well at today’s 2023 Logie nomination announcement.

The ABC is celebrating an impressive haul of 45 nominations for this year’s Logie Awards, one of the largest number of nominations ever received by the public broadcaster. The nominations, announced in Sydney this morning, span across a diverse range of television genres, including drama, lifestyle, comedy, entertainment, news, and current affairs.

Three ABC figures have been nominated for the prestigious Gold Logie Award: Leigh Sales, presenter of Australian Story; Shaun Micallef, host of Mad as Hell; and Mark Coles Smith, actor in Mystery Road: Origin. The winner of this award will be named Australia’s most popular television personality.

Mystery Road: Origin leads the ABC nominations with seven nods, including for Most Popular Drama and Most Outstanding Drama. Mark Coles Smith, who plays detective Jay Swan in the series, has been nominated for both the Most Outstanding Actor and Most Popular Actor categories.

Chris Oliver-Taylor, ABC’s Chief Content Officer, said the high number of nominations demonstrates the depth and breadth of talent across the ABC.

“I congratulate all our nominees – from our presenters and cast members to all those behind the scenes who have contributed to giving Australians some of the best shows found anywhere in the world.

We look forward to a very successful Logies night in Sydney on Sunday 30 July,” he said.

All of ABC’s Logie nominated programs are available to view on ABC iview’s Logie Awards Collection, which also contains a link to vote.

ABC’s nominations also include Patrick Brammall for Most Popular Actor for his roles in Summer Love and Colin from Accounts, and Lincoln Younes for his roles in Barons and Kings of the Cross. Kitty Flanagan and Julia Zemiro are in the running for Most Popular Actress for their work in Fisk.

For Most Popular Presenter, Tony Armstrong from ABC News Breakfast joins Shaun Micallef. Mystery Road: Origin and Savage River are nominated for Most Popular Drama Program, while Hard Quiz and Gruen are up for Most Popular Entertainment Program.

Gardening Australia, Back Roads, and A Dog’s World with Tony Armstrong vie for Most Popular Lifestyle Program.

For Most Outstanding Drama Series, Miniseries or Telemovie, Mystery Road: Origin is nominated alongside Significant Others and In Our Blood.

Other nominations for ABC include Arka Das for Most Outstanding Supporting Actor in Here Out West, Clarence Ryan for Most Outstanding Supporting Actor in Mystery Road: Origin, and Hayley McElhinney for Most Outstanding Supporting Actress in Mystery Road: Origin.

ABC’s nominated programs in the Most Outstanding News Coverage or Public Affairs Report category are Foreign Correspondent: Saving the Children, Foreign Correspondent: Somalia a Story of Survival, Four Corners: Do No Harm, and Four Corners: How Many More.

Old People’s Home For Teenagers and Australia’s Wild Odyssey are nominated for Most Outstanding Factual or Documentary Program. For Most Outstanding Comedy Program, Fisk, Shaun Micallef’s Mad As Hell, and Summer Love have been nominated.

ABC’s nominations for Most Outstanding Children’s Program include Bluey, Crazy Fun Park, and Turn Up the Volume.

Foxtel and BINGE

The Foxtel Group is celebrating its 17 nominations for the 63rd TV Week Logie Awards, in categories that showcase the strength of its drama, lifestyle, and reality programming across its platforms, FOXTEL and BINGE.

The courtroom drama THE TWELVE is leading the pack, with nine nominations including the coveted Most Outstanding Drama Series and Most Popular Drama Program. This intense 10-episode series, which has captivated audiences with its tale of 12 average Australians called upon for jury duty in a gripping and contentious murder trial, has been a standout this year. The accused in the drama is a woman alleged to have murdered her teenage niece.

Sam Neill, an international actor of acclaim, has been nominated for his portrayal of Brett Colby SC in THE TWELVE. He is up for both Most Popular and Most Outstanding Actor. His co-stars Marta Dusseldorp and Kate Mulvany join him in the running for Most Outstanding Actress, while Brooke Satchwell and Pallavi Sharda have been nominated for Most Outstanding Supporting Actress. Hamish Michael also receives a nod for Most Outstanding Supporting Actor.

The comedy series COLIN FROM ACCOUNTS, a hit on BINGE, has received four nominations, including the category of Most Outstanding Comedy Series. This 8-episode series has not only broken viewing records for the Foxtel Group, but has also gained an international audience, having been picked up by multiple territories around the world including the BBC.

Patrick Brammall and Harriet Dyer, the creators, writers and stars of COLIN FROM ACCOUNTS, are nominated for Most Outstanding Actor and Actress respectively. Brammall also finds himself in the run for Most Popular Actor.

The second season of the Foxtel Original series UPRIGHT also garnered recognition, with co-stars Tim Minchin and Milly Alcock nominated for Most Outstanding Actor and Actress respectively.

The Foxtel Group has shown its dominance in the Most Outstanding Actress category, securing four out of six nominations.

The Group’s Logie Award-winning hit series GOGGLEBOX AUSTRALIA is nominated again in the Most Popular Entertainment Program category. The 14th season of the popular SELLING HOUSES AUSTRALIA, featuring the expertise of real estate expert Andrew Winter, interior designer Wendy Moore, and landscape designer Dennis Scott, is in the running for Most Popular Lifestyle Program.

Amanda Laing, Foxtel Group Chief Content and Commercial Officer, expressed her delight at the nominations, noting that they reflect the Group’s commitment to showcasing Australian stories and talent.

“Brian Walsh, our esteemed colleague, was instrumental in each of these nominations. His passion project, The Twelve, particularly embodies his contributions and we celebrate him as part of this recognition,” she said.

Stan

Locally owned streaming service Stan is celebrating the nine nominations it has received for the 63rd TV WEEK Logie Awards.

Stan Original Series RuPaul’s Drag Race Down Under Season 2 runner-up, Kween Kong, received a nomination for the Graham Kennedy Award for Most Popular New Talent, adding to the excitement of the occasion.

Stan’s Original Series Black Snow, a riveting crime drama created by Lucas Taylor and set in North Queensland, has been nominated for the highly sought-after Most Outstanding Drama Series, Miniseries, or Telemovie. Alexander England, one of the show’s cast members, has also been nominated for Most Outstanding Supporting Actor. The series features Travis Fimmel and Talijah Blackman-Corowa and is produced by Goalpost Television.

Another Stan Original Series, Bump, has also made a mark, with its co-creator and producer Claudia Karvan nominated for Most Outstanding Actress. This acclaimed drama series, produced by Roadshow Rough Diamond and founders Dan and John Edwards, has released three seasons, all available exclusively on Stan.

Bali 2002, a series developed through direct consultation with those affected by the tragic event it portrays, has also received recognition. Claudia Jessie and Richard Roxburgh have been nominated for Most Outstanding Actress and Actor, respectively, for their performances in the series. Bali 2002 marks the first original drama series co-commissioned by the 9Network and Stan, and is produced by Screentime and Endemol Shine Australia.

In another Stan Original Series, Bad Behaviour, Yerin Ha has been honoured with a nomination for Most Outstanding Supporting Actress. This series, based on the celebrated book by Australian writer Rebecca Starford, is a production of Matchbox Pictures, with Corrie Chen directing and Pip Karmel and Magda Wozniak handling the writing duties.

Stan’s Original Documentary Series, Revealed: Trafficked, has earned a nomination for Most Outstanding Factual or Documentary Program. This investigative documentary, led by 14-time Walkley Award-winner Nick McKenzie, is directed and produced by renowned documentary filmmaker Sascha Ettinger-Epstein.
