Wide World of Sports is set to present a fitting tribute to a veritable titan of rugby league with “Wally Lewis: The King,” set to air on Channel 9HD and 9Now on Tuesday, June 20, in the lead-up to State of Origin II.

In this hour-long special, Queensland’s beloved son and rugby league Immortal, Wally Lewis, opens up about the remarkable journey that has defined his 63 years. Widely regarded as the greatest ever player in rugby league, Lewis’ legendary achievements in State of Origin remain unparalleled. However, the journey hasn’t been without its challenges, a testament to the strength of character that complements his on-field prowess.

In telling the extraordinary tale of Lewis’ life, a line-up of football greats, including Wayne Bennett, Paul Vautin, Gene Miles, Phil Gould, Andrew Johns, and Brad Fittler, come together alongside Wally’s parents and others who have been integral to his journey.

“Wally Lewis: The King” offers previously unseen footage from the Wide World of Sports archives, providing a heartfelt and inspiring narrative that traces Lewis’ meteoric rise to fame, the profound deafness of his daughter at birth, and his personal health battles, all set against the backdrop of his awe-inspiring football achievements.

The director of “The King,” Alex Rolls, expressed his excitement for the upcoming presentation, stating,
