The journey to the Olympics for Australia’s elite swimmers is set to commence on 9Now with the exclusive, live, and free broadcast of the 2023 World Championship Swimming Trials, from June 13-18.
This event marks a significant step on the path to the Paris 2024 Olympics.
In what promises to be a thrilling six-day event at Melbourne Sports and Aquatic Centre, swimming enthusiasts will receive comprehensive coverage of every heat and final. More than 500 swimmers will compete for the honour of representing the Dolphins team at July’s World Championships in Fukuoka, Japan.
A spectacular lineup of swimmers includes Men’s field contenders like world record-holder Zac Stubblety-Cook, Kyle Chalmers, Mack Horton, and Cody Simpson. Australia’s standout female swimmers, including Emma McKeon, Ariarne Titmus, Mollie O’Callaghan, Bronte Campbell, and Shayne Jack, will also compete.
Swimming Australia and Nine have partnered to broadcast the World Championship Trials, further building on the momentum leading up to the Paris 2024 Olympics. This comes after the successful coverage of the Australian Age Championships and Australian Swimming Championships, which aired on 9Now in April.
Brent Williams, Nine’s Director of Sport, emphasised the significance of the network’s recent swimming coverage, noting the importance of promoting both existing and emerging talent ahead of Paris 2024.
“With the 2023 World Championships in Fukuoka being the biggest event on the swimming calendar, we’re delighted that 9Now will provide free coverage of the Trials to swimming fans throughout Australia,” Williams said.
Dr Michelle Gallen, Swimming Australia President, echoed Williams’ sentiments, expressing excitement over the upcoming World Championships Trials streaming on 9Now.
“We saw positive viewing numbers throughout the Australian Age Championships and Australian Championships earlier this year, with more than 14 million minutes viewed across the country,”
Gallen noted.
“The Trials will be hotly contested and it is great news for fans of Australian swimming that no matter where you are across the country, you will be able to stream the action live on 9Now.”
