SBS secured the broadcast rights for the pinnacle event of World Netball in a deal brokered by SPORTFIVE, the international broadcast agency of the world governing bodies.

The Australian Diamonds, who were runners-up in the 2019 Vitality Netball World Cup in Liverpool and recent Quad Series victors, are aiming to reclaim the title from the current holders, the New Zealand Silver Ferns. Australia clinched the Netball World Cup three times consecutively in 2007, 2011, and 2015.

Among the 16 participating nations, South Africa, England, along with emerging netball nations like Malawi and Jamaica, will pose a challenging quest for the Diamonds to claim the Netball World Cup, World Netball’s ultimate prize.

Ken Shipp, SBS Director of Sport, expressed his delight,

“We’re thrilled to broadcast the Vitality Netball World Cup 2023 finals exclusively and free-to-air for Australians on SBS and SBS On Demand. With a strong grassroots following in Australia and our commitment to women’s sport, we anticipate an exhilarating competition with our Aussie side in robust form.”

Malcolm Thorpe from SPORTFIVE added,

“We are pleased to forge this partnership between World Netball and SBS. We’re excited to expand netball’s reach to more audiences through SBS channels.”

World Netball CEO, Clare Briegal, welcomed the collaboration, stating,

“We are ecstatic that our ever-growing and passionate Netball Family in Australia can watch the Semi-Finals and Final live and free on SBS. This presents a fantastic opportunity to inspire the next generation and expand our audience, while offering our devoted netball family the high-quality broadcast they deserve.”
