Investigative journalist Denham Hitchcock is set to shed new light on a 20-year-old murder mystery in an exclusive true crime documentary, premiering on Sky News Australia.
Titled ‘Who Murdered Marea?’, the one-hour documentary delves into the chilling and unsolved murder of Marea Yann, a beloved 69-year-old mother of three from Healesville, Victoria.
Marea’s brutal murder, considered by detectives as the most horrific crime scene they’ve ever encountered, unfolded in her own home on a quiet night in September 2003.
Despite a lack of forced entry or signs of a botched robbery, initial investigations led to the arrest of Marea’s son-in-law, Joseph “James” Unumadu. However, Unumadu was acquitted after a two-week trial, leaving the case cold and justice for Marea unfulfilled.
Now, as the twentieth anniversary of Marea’s tragic death approaches, Hitchcock breathes new life into the cold case. Collaborating closely with Marea’s family and senior detectives, he uncovers fresh leads, tracks down new witnesses, and reveals disturbing, previously unseen documents.
Denham Hitchcock, renowned for his commitment to justice, reflects on the gravity of the case:
“Every phone call, every door knock, every tipoff and whisper led me deeper into this story.
Not only did I feel deeply for Marea, who could have been anyone’s grandmother, but I could never have guessed where this investigation would lead. Marea’s time is coming.”
