Not even the famous Blue Heeler dog’s dad can have a bad day.
The ABC have advised that an episode from the latest series of their uber popular kids program Bluey has been edited and republished by the makers, Ludo Studios, with full support of the national broadcaster.
The move has come after many viewers lambasted the makers of the program for suggesting to children that weight, as opposed to lifelong health, is the reason exercise is important. In the scene (no longer available) Bluey’s dad Bandit stepped on the scales in his bathroom and after sighing at his weight then stepped off and grabbed his belly, proclaiming he needed to start exercising again.
Parents expressed their disappointment online at the controversial viewpoint, suggesting it was fat-shaming where instead children should be taught acceptance and a broader understanding of the reasons for exercise and good health.
An ABC spokesperson said:
“The new version provides families with the opportunity to manage important conversations in their own way. As the home of Bluey, the ABC supports the decision to re-edit the program and we have updated the episode on our platforms.”
Global distribution of the series through BBC Studios will also carry the newly edited version of the episode.
