All good things must come to end… or get taken from us. Today’s episode ends in elimination of a beloved team. Let’s recap episode 10 of Australian Lego Masters: Grand Masters.

Today’s build is called “The Heist!” Hamish announces, whilst suspended by wires in mid-air.

Each team has a different setting and each team must create an epic heist scene.

Because they hold the molten brick, Scott and Owen get to choose everyone’s set-

“–The Train,” Scott decides before Hamish can finish his sentence. Well that’s sorted. They also decide which scene everyone else gets. The great thing about Lego Masters, compared to most shows, the boys try to pick the scenes to best suit the other teams, not disadvantage them.

“Heists come down to minute fine detail,” Brickman warns. It has to scream heists on a minifig scale. It’s a lot easier said than done and Brickman is going to be very particular about the storytelling.

The teams have 14 hours, that’s a lot of crime and a lot of heists to build.

Hamish is in his element sleuthing on the contestants stealing their lego bricks and sneaking up on them. There’s also a cameo from “catwoman” this build too (blushes).

The Builds:

David and Gus are given the docks. They start with shipping container story which doesn’t really stick and they change their idea to a luxury yacht heist.

“Minifig scale is not our strength,” Gus admits. To compensate this weakness, they have included a mechanism to rock their yacht and show it is getting stolen.

“I think we have a really good build but compared to the others in the room, it’s the smallest.” David says at the end of their build.

Brickman is also worried that their yacht build looks more like a container ship. The mechanism they have used has dictated the size of the boat which has a gaping hole down the bottom. There’s a heap of minifigs but their placement does not make much sense. All valid feedback from Brickman. It’s a great build but compared to their other builds it’s not their best.

Scott and Owen have always wanted to build a train, to much of Ryan’s dismay. They start thinking of centring their build in the Victorian era and going off-stud for extra effect.

They (mostly) manage to hold their focus despite Hamish’s crazy antics.

“There’s a bunch of wheels on things, connected to a bunch of steal things,” Owen explains, feeling Ryan’s glare. Luckily, he get’s the tick of approval from Ryan for his steam engine.

With the molten brick, there has been no pressure for them and they can build for fun.

“It’s good vibes around the table.” Scott smiles.

With Owen focusing on the grand architecture, Scotty has time to focus on the minifig world. They are well and truly in their element.

“We are coming back to what we both enjoy, which has been really rewarding today.” Owen says.

Andrew and Damien were building a hotel heist. Except the villains aren’t stealing a thing. They’re stealing the whole hotel.

“It’s UP all over again.” Andrew sighs.

“When it comes to heists.” You go hard or you go home.”

– Andrew

The stealing the hotel build looks brilliant. They even add a fire in the window and fire trucks to make it more comical but to Brickman, the fire in the window distracts from the story.

Caleb and Alex are building the art gallery heist. Scott and Owen choose this build for these guys knowing colour is their strength. It’s looking like one of the largest builds today. Considering they are the colour experts, Brickman points out that their 2 colours of beige and brown are not very interesting to look at. They try to add more colour on the outside of their build but not in it.

“Is the story passable?” Hamish asks Brickman.

“Passable. If I was to give them a score of 100, I would give them 51/100,” Brickman says savagely and slightly out of character. “The downside of going so large, is you have a lot of brick you have to lay. It’s still missing some colour.”

“The standard of Grand Masters is so high. Even if you think you’ve done a really good build. There’s still something you can do to make it better.” Caleb.

Joss and Henry are creating a jewellers heist. They start with building crooked crops but Brickman is highly confused by their story. They pivot for the better and decide to build 1920s jewellery store. Rich in dark greens and gold, their story screams heist.

Henry also screams ‘heist’ when snuck upon by Hamish Catwoman.

“I love the period piece, you thought of all the small details, the cars, the clothes. You did a great job.” Brickman praises.

Gabby and Ryan are building a bank heist. In their last season, Gabby and Ryan have done built circuses and heists, why not do both? They think. Only, with 2 hours to go, their clown heist still does not have any clowns.

Brickman loves the overemphasis of clowns in bank but outside, it’s missing. It’s great but another couple hours could have done wonder.

The Results:

The top 2 teams include Henry and Joss and Scott and Owen. Both teams nailed their stories, colours and period but for building off-stud. Scotty and Owen win the molten brick for the second time in a row.

Caleb and Alex make the bottom two and so do David and Gus.  It’s all come down to execution.

It really did come down to the littlest things and not what went wrong but what went right. Caleb and Alex’s storytelling has solidified their position in the game and Season 3 winners, David and Gus are sadly going home.

They’re crying, Brickman’s crying and I’m crying too.

“I have privilege to win season 3 with Gus. Now I have privilege to play against these amazing builders.” David says.

“Being here was just another lego masters experience and reliving the fun we had. It was just another amazing experience.” Gus adds.

“It’s crazy to see previous winners of Lego masters eliminated. Now we’re the only previous winners remaining.” Henry sighs.

Lego Masters: Grand Masters returns Sunday at 7:30 on 9 and 9NOW.
