“You can’t make a whole show about balloons,”…. Hamish Blake has taken a rather amusing jab at Channel 7’s new competition series Blow Up during last night’s episode of Lego Masters.
On Monday night’s episode of Lego Masters: Grand Masters, hosts Hamish Blake and Brickman took a playful dig at their competitors while contestants were tasked with building scenes from iconic Disney films.
Contestants Andrew and Damian were busy recreating the scene from the 2009 film Up, where Carl’s house takes off with the help of thousands of balloons, during the 10-hour challenge.
As Damian struggled to create the massive bunch of balloons, Hamish and Brickman observed with amusement.
“Are balloons interesting on TV? That’s really the question about this build,” Hamish quipped.
“You can’t make a whole show about balloons,” agreed Brickman, the show’s resident Lego expert.
Hamish concluded, “Balloons are good for a part of one episode of a show. No, I don’t think there’s a series in them – but maybe there’s something we’re missing,” before the show went to an ad break.
The playful banter between Hamish and Brickman was a clear reference to Blow Up, an upcoming balloon art show set to air on Channel Seven. Despite Lego Masters being filmed by Channel Nine back in October, the timing of the joke airing on Monday coincided with Seven’s increased previews and promotions for Blow Up, adding a humorous touch to the competition.
Hosted by actor Stephen Curry and comedian Becky Lucas, Blow Up contestants will face off in a series of challenges that will test their skills in balloon artistry and decoration. From creating life-size figures to miniature designs, the competition will feature some of the most talented balloon artists in the country.
The contestants’ performances will be judged by resident balloon expert Chris Adamo and a panel of celebrity guest judges. They will be looking for the most creative and awe-inspiring designs.
Blow Up is a Banijay company production, brought to viewers by Endemol Shine Australia for the Seven Network.

Who’s the sponsor Ansell Product Testing and Development ?
Hamish …… Lego ….. 🤦♂️
I’m also a bit skeptical that Seven can make a sucessful show about balloons popular. However, in a world like ours, something as simple and mindless could become a popular source of respite. We’ll find out soon enough.
