Streaming platforms Freevee and Prime Video, together with Fremantle, have announced that a new chapter of the Australian soap opera Neighbours will begin production on April 17, 2023, at Nunawading Studios in Melbourne.
The news was shared by the cast during the final show of “Neighbours – The Celebration Tour” at the London Palladium.
Cast members Alan Fletcher, Jackie Woodburne, Stefan Dennis, Ryan Moloney, Annie Jones, and April Rose Pengilly will all be returning for the new chapter, which is set to launch in the spring of 2023 and will be produced by Fremantle.
TV Blackbox understands storylines for the rebooted series will pick up a “couple of years” from the events featured during its 2022 conclusion. Producers are yet to confirm how many episodes will be produced under the new deal, or if location filming will return to the famous homes of Pinoak Court in Melbourne.
Rebekah Elmaloglou (as Terese Willis), Georgie Stone (as Mackenzie Hargreaves), and Tim Kano (as Leo Tanaka) will reprise their roles as series regulars.
Returning in guest roles are Ian Smith (as Harold Bishop), April Rose Pengilly (as Chloe Brennan), and Melissa Bell (as Lucy Robinson).
Neighbours Executive Producer Jason Herbison expressed excitement for the upcoming production, stating that the team is “busy writing the next chapter of Neighbours, bringing to life again the show’s much-loved characters as well as new residents.” He added that it is “exciting to see the sets being prepped, ready to start filming.”
The new chapter of Neighbours will be broadcast in Australia on Network 10, which has been the show’s home for over three decades.
It will also premiere for free, exclusively on Amazon Freevee in the UK and US, and will stream on Prime Video in Canada, Ireland, South Africa, Australia, and New Zealand.
