The Australian Idol dream ended for two contestants tonight as Australia locked in their Top 10 during a night of highs and lows.

Opening the show with an explosive group performance of Lizzo’s About Damn Time, the Top 12 stood side-by-side on stage to hear who Australia had chosen as their favourite eight performers, and which contestants would land in the bottom four.

When asked what he thought of the voting result, judge Kyle Sandilands said bluntly:

“I can’t complain. I think Australia has got it right.”

Jasey Fox, Maya Weiss, Ben Sheehy and Noora H each took to the Idol stage to prove to Australia why they still deserved a place in the competition. For two artists, it would be their final performance before judges Harry Connick Jr, Meghan Trainor, Kyle Sandilands and Amy Shark.

Jasey owned the stage with Waking Up in Vegas by Katy Perry, while Maya delivered a rousing performance of Titanium by David Guetta ft. Sia.

Ben rocked River Deep, Mountain High by Tina Turner and Noora shined with I Have Nothing by Whitney Houston.

As Jasey, Maya, Noora and Ben waited to hear their fate, Meghan Trainor had the audience on their feet with a dazzling performance of her smash-hit Made You Look.

As the audience fell silent, Australian Idol hosts Ricki-Lee and Scott Tweedie announced Ben and Noora had made it to the Top 10, while Jasey Fox and Maya Weiss were the first artists to be eliminated from the competition after securing the lowest number of viewer votes.

On leaving the show, Jasey said:

“We’re older, we’re used to setbacks. You will know our names.”

Maya was also grateful for her time on the show, saying: “Thank you to the judges, the crew and thank you to everyone for getting us here.”
