Beyond Paradise, a spin-off from the phenomenally popular Death in Paradise, is set to premiere on BBC First next month.

Death in Paradise has been running for 12 series and is one of the most-watched dramas on subscription television. In 2022 it was the #5 scripted title on STV.

Beyond Paradise will reveal what happened to DI Humphrey Goodman after he left the sunny shores of Saint Marie after falling in love with old friend Martha Llyod and following her back to London to live with her.

Now seeking a quieter life away from the stress of the city, Humphrey (Kris Marshall) has taken a job as a Detective Inspector in fiancée Martha’s (Sally Bretton) hometown.

However, they soon find that country life is anything but peaceful and Humphrey can’t help but be distracted by the town’s surprisingly high crime rate with a new, and very different, case challenging him and his somewhat eclectic team of DS Esther Williams (Zahra Ahmadi), PC Kelby Hartford (Dylan Llewellyn) and Margo Martins (Felicity Montagu) each week.

The not-so-sleepy town of Shipton Abbott will be rocked by an entire family disappearing without a trace, a woman claiming she was attacked by a suspect from the seventeenth century, the robbery of a highly prized painting, a body bizarrely discovered in a crop circle and a serial arsonist with a seeming distaste for local businesses.

As Humphrey gets stuck into his new job, he and Martha must also navigate life’s ups and downs, as faces from the past, the decisions they make and the challenges of setting up life in a new town put their relationship to the ultimate test yet.

Kris Marshall said:

“I had the best time playing Humphrey out in Guadeloupe and whilst I was delighted that he got his happy ending with Martha, I always wanted to know what happened next.

So it’s a joy to be putting his crumpled jacket back on and seeing how life has panned out for him back in the UK.

Working with Sally is a dream, and I can’t wait to continue Humphrey and Martha’s story and solve a few seemingly impossible mysteries along the way.”

The cast in this series include Kris Marshall (Death in Paradise, A Few Best Men), Sally Bretton (Death in Paradise, Not Going Out), Zahra Ahmadi (The Bay, EastEnders), Dylan Llewellyn (Big Boys, Derry Girls) and Felicity Montagu (This Time with Alan Partridge, Landscapers, Vanity Fair).

Beyond Paradise premieres on BBC First on Saturdays at 8.30pm from March 4 and will be available to stream On Demand and through Binge
