With revelations regarding Royal Family currently dominating the news cycle, Channel 10 has confirmed it will broadcast a controversial interview between Prince Harry and Anderson Cooper this Monday night.

This exclusive US interview will air on Australian TV for the first time during a special edition of The Project on Monday, January 9 at 6.30pm on Network 10 and 10 Play.

Monday’s edition of The Project will be the first episode presented by the new hosting line-up of Sarah Harris, Waleed Aly and comedian Sam Taunton and the network will be hoping the edition of the Prince Harry interview will bolster ratings for the program.

As a member of the global media giant Paramount, Network 10 has secured the Australian rights to the highly anticipated interview which has been produced for the US edition of 60 Minutes.

The announcement by Channel 10 comes after Channel 7 recently confirmed it will also be broadcasting a 1-hour Prince Harry interview special on Monday evening. Seven is sourcing its interview from UK broadcaster ITV with the Tom Bradby presented special to air in the 7:30pm timeslot.

Meanwhile, Channel 9 is yet to so secure broadcast rights for any of Prince Harry’s current promotional interviews. But don’t be surprised if the network pushes the boundaries of ‘fair-use’ by airing sections of rivals’ interviews during Monday’s edition of A Current Affair.

In the first interview to air on Australian TV, Prince Harry talks with Anderson Cooper candidly about his bombshell biography, Spare, which is causing tensions with the Royal Family to be re-ignited.

The memoir title, Spare, comes from the phrase “heir and spare,” which is understood to reflect Harry’s feelings towards his brother Prince William, who is first in line for King Charles’s throne.

During the raw and emotional interview, Harry discusses his departure from the UK and the Royal Family, saying that Buckingham Palace failed to protect him and Meghan Markle from the intense tabloid attacks and vitriol that they faced.

He also claims that his private conversations with other members of the Royal Family were leaked to the press and that his pleas for help were met with silence by palace officials.

“There comes a point,” Harry tells Cooper, “where silence is betrayal.”

Channel 10 also holds the Australian broadcast rights to another interview between Prince Harry and late-night talk show host Stephen Colbert. The network is yet to confirm if the Late Show interview will air in an earlier timeslot.

The Project – Prince Harry with Anderson Cooper airs Monday, January 9 at 6.30pm on Network 10 and 10 Play
