Highly respected 7News Spotlight reporter Denham Hitchcock has publicly confirmed he has recently resigned from the Seven Network.

In a post on Instagram, Denham Hitchcock stated that he plans to work freelance and spend more time with his family and at sea.

Over the course of his 28-year career as a TV journalist, Hitchcock has worked in newsrooms in three different countries and reported on a variety of stories, many of which dealt with difficult or tragic events.

In his Instagram post, Hitchcock reflected on the impact these stories have had on him and emphasised the importance of not letting dreams go unfulfilled.

In addition to spending more time with his family and exploring the ocean, Hitchcock also plans to continue working as a freelance journalist.

Despite leaving the network, Hitchcock stated that he remains committed to fearless reporting and making a difference through his journalism. He expressed gratitude to the hundreds of individuals who have shared their stories with him, often during difficult times.

“The ocean is calling once more and this salty boat life needs further exploring, in the pacific islands, and potentially beyond.

“I’m proud of my recent record at the Spotlight documentary unit. 14 programs, 10 of them – one hour shows, most of those with me as researcher, producer and reporter. That’s a show every 1.5 months – and number 15 will be out this year.

“Yep, it’s been busy – and only possible with the hardest working team in Australian TV, editors, producers and bosses who elevated and improved whatever I brought to the table.

I wish my colleagues at Spotlight, and the network, all the best and thank them for their unwavering support for almost a decade. Fearless reporting remains essential.

“I’ll be going freelance, but predominantly I’ll be preparing our floating home to cross oceans ~ the last great wilderness.

“Thanks to the hundreds of brave people who entrusted me with their life story, often at the worst possible time. My intention is always to not just report what happened, but to make a difference, and that won’t change.”

Hitchcock also thanked his colleagues at Spotlight and the Channel Seven network for their support and hard work.

Hitchcock’s decision to resign from the Channel Seven network and focus on freelance work and personal pursuits marks a new start for him in the new year.

He plans to use this opportunity to explore the Pacific Islands and possibly beyond, while also continuing to report on important stories and make a positive impact through his journalism.

  1. Free to do a story on potential Adverse events then !

Start with two employees collapsing in the production office on the same day. 😬😮

Win a Walkley award for that !

  2. The silence from him over the story we all want him to cover has been telling BUT is it’s 7 that blocked it or him? Time will tell. We know he has been contacted by thousands of injured patients and that the story has been ignored. Will he have the balls to now tell it? We are waiting Denham.
