Former AFL champion and high-profile Fox Footy star Nick Riewoldt has confirmed he will take a sabbatical in the United States for the next 12 months.

Riewoldt’s current contract with Fox Footy expires at the end of 2022.

TV Blackbox understands the respected commentator had attempted to negotiate a new agreement with Fox Footy that would have seen him miss approximately half of the 2023 AFL season, but ultimately opted to take a full break from his Australian media commitments

Riewoldt and his American-born wife, Catherine are set to relocate to Houston, Texas where their three children have already attended school. While in the States, Riewoldt will continue to work with major stadium manager PMY Group in business development.

His departure from Fox Footy, where he has been a regular contributor since 2018, will be a significant loss for the network.

Riewoldt was a key commentator for Fox Footy’s live coverage of blockbuster matches, and also appeared on flagship Monday night show “On The Couch” and Saturday night entertainment program “Best On Ground.”
