Channel 7 has finally confirmed one of TV’s worst-kept secrets with today’s confirmation the network has secured broadcast rights to the new two-part reunion special, Kath & Kim’s Effluent Life.
The new Kath & Kim special was filmed in Melbourne earlier this year and is expected to follow a similar format to last year’s blockbuster Friends reunion.
All of the core cast including Gina Riley, Jane Turner, Magda Szubanski, Glenn Robbins and Peter Rowsthorn are understood to have returned for the special which is expected to include a mixture of new sketch material, previously unseen footage and cast interviews.
The Foxy ladies confirmed the deal with Channel 7 with Kath declaring;
“Well Kim has never actually moved out for more than a week, so it’s not so much of a reunion, as, here we go again peoples!”
Kim adding:
“I know the world has been waiting with bad breath to see me in the flesh again and of course Sharon’s hanging on trying to block my shine, but no one can take away the light under my enormous bushel.”
Along with the core cast, guests involved with the special include Sonia Kruger, Celia Pacquola and Collingwood footballer Mason Cox.
Original executive producer of the beloved comedy, Rick McKenna stated that the new special would provide viewers a glimpse into their lives of Kath & Kim in 2022.
“The essence of it is we wanted to celebrate and we wanted a reunion but no one wanted to mess with the series,’’ he said.
“It’s the family as of today. Everyone involved is incredibly proud and flattered by the love fans give from around the world. There are fans of the show who weren’t even born when the show was produced. It’s amazing how much laughter there was on set and that comes to life.”
