Popular Channel 9 journalist Charles Croucher appears to be the favourite to replace Chris Uhlmann in the coveted role of Channel 9 Political Editor.
A report in today’s Australian Media Diary column indicates Croucher is set to replace Uhlmann in the key network role made famous by the legendary Laurie Oakes.
Channel 9 has been searching for a new political editor since Uhlmann confirmed at the start of the year he was eager to retire from political journalism.
The move to place Croucher into the key political editor portfolio comes after Karl Stefanovic recently confirmed to TV Blackbox he was eager to stick with the Today hosting gig for the long term.
Croucher has been seen as a star on the rise within the network regularly filling in as a guest host on Today.
Earlier this year, Croucher filmed a pilot for a primetime Federal Election ‘pub special’ alongside Leila McKinnon.
While the format was well received by Nine insiders, the specials ultimately did not proceed due to a mixture of COVID and budget issues.
