The Australian International Documentary Conference reveals jury for 2022 AIDC Awards

Taking place in March of next year, the AIDC Awards are a highlight event of the four-day conference going hybrid in 2022.

The jury has been announced today for the Australian International Documentary Conference (AIDC) Awards, a highlight event taking place during the conference running from March 6-9, 2022 in a hybrid capacity, with both online and in-person attendance available at the Australian Centre for Moving Image (ACMI).

The Awards will be presented on Wednesday, March 9 at ACMI, Melbourne during the AIDC 2022 conference, acknowledging the very best Australian documentary and factual work of the last year across six categories: Best Feature Documentary, Best Documentary/Factual Series; Best Documentary/Factual Single; Best Short-Form Documentary, Best Audio Documentary, and Best Interactive/Immersive Documentary.

The 2022 AIDC Awards Jury comprises members with a wealth of screen knowledge and industry experience, including:

  • Abigail Priddle, Creative Director, BBC Studios, The Documentary Unit, UK
  • Gillian Moody, Producer, Kalori Productions, Australia
  • Julie Shapiro, Vice President of Editorial, PRX & Radiotopia, USA
  • Kate Montague, Managing Director / Co-Founder of Audiocraft, Australia
  • Kitty Green, Director / Producer, Australia 
  • Lindsay Poulton, Head of Documentaries, The Guardian, UK
  • Nashen Moodley, Festival Director, Sydney Film Festival, Australia
  • Penny Smallacombe, Producer, Bunya Productions, Australia
  • Rebecca Barry, Co-Founder & Producer, Media Stockade, Australia
  • S. Leo Chiang, Director, Walking Iris Media, USA / Taiwan
  • Sonya Pemberton, Creative Director, Genepool, Australia

Along with the AIDC Awards announcement, AIDC is also proud to present its fourth Indigenous Creators Program in 2022.

The program of four sessions aims to provide new opportunities to upskill, network, and pitch market-ready projects to decision makers seeking Indigenous-led stories. These private, Indigenous-only sessions provide targeted information to practitioners from all skill levels around pitching, storytelling, funding, legal, and distribution.

AIDC also seeks applications for its Cut to the Chase curated meetings program, the new DocPlay Originals Pitch and the Getty Images Archive Pitch, all entries closing January 30, 2022.

AIDC continues to partner with leading industry companies and stakeholders including Principal Partner Film Victoria, Presenting Partners ACMI and Screen Australia, plus Major Partners ABC and SBS.
