With the battle still raging to see which network will be able to claim the number 1 ratings crown for 2021, the Nine Network has acted against the underperforming reality hook-up series Love Island Australia.

The programming change will see the Sophie Monk hosted series now airing after 9:30pm across the week, while a repeat episode of the popular Travel Guides series will move into the 8:40pm timeslot on Tuesday. Wednesday night on Channel 9 at 8:40pm will now feature the return of the Melbourne based factual series Emergency.

Nine’s decision to bump Love Island Australia comes after the show has failed to find a significant audience for its linear broadcast. Wednesday night’s episode, which aired after a Finding Cleo special attracted a metro broadcast audience of 203k, while the Monday and Tuesday night episodes airing after Parental Guidance secured audiences of 204k and 191k.

While broadcast audiences for Love Island Australia have been disappointing, the show continues to deliver the network significant online audiences on streaming platform 9Now. Recent Total TV data has seen audiences figures for the show rise as much as 80% over a 7-day period. The Love Island franchise continues to be the most program for the streaming platform.

The programming change at Nine comes at the same time as archrival Channel 7 been making significant changes to its multichannel line-up with the addition of a number of movie titles being added to the 7Two and 7Flix schedule as it looks to bolster its network share figures amid the disappointing ratings numbers currently being produced by Big Brother VIP.

  1. There’s only one thing worse that this show (sorry, two – I forgot Big Brother “VIP” lol) and that’s the “AfterParty”. Talk about cringe with embarrassment! I don’t know how the host keeps a straight face. The saddest part of the whole thing though is the “audience” – all ten of them cheering wildly. It looks like they dragged people our of their offices and the staff canteen to fill up a few chairs and try to look like they’re having fun – I certainly was – it was hilarious!

  2. Rude! Abby has grown into herself over the Love Island Adterparty show and im so proud of its it would have been nerve racking hosting a brand new show for the first time ever in her life. Kuddos to her
