The Seven Network looks set to premiere a primetime interview special featuring the “Bad-Boy” of AFL, Ben Cousins which will see him talk extensively about his drug and family separation issues.
According to Media Diary in The Australian, the interview was conducted over several days in Perth last week by Basil Zempilas. The special is being put together by respected producer Mark Llewellyn who is now freelancing at Seven after a recently departing Nine.
It is the first time Cousins has spoken openly regarding his issues since a landmark documentary ‘Such Is Life’ which aired over two nights on Seven in 2010.
Since retiring from professional football, Cousins has spent extensive periods in prison and rehab facilities while he continues to battle drug and mental health issues. It is unclear if Cousins has been paid to participate in the program.
After axing its Sunday Night current affairs program last year, the network has now committed to producing a series of primetime Seven News specials as it looks to find an engaging alternative to reality programming such as MKR and MAFS.
Seven is yet to comment publicly on the interview, but it’s considered highly likely the special will premiere on a Sunday evening to coincide with Round 1 of the new AFL season.
They should of never axed Sunday Night. We truly don’t want or need poorly produced reality tv, especially by the current frauds in that place!
