Yesterday’s thrilling AFL Grand Final not only delivered a much sort after win for the Eagles, and disappointment for Pies supporters, it also delivered the lowest TV ratings result for an AFL Grand Final in 10 years.

Seven’s coverage delivered a metro and regional peak audience of 4.297 million in-home viewers, averaging 3.378 million viewers, with an additional 11,000 watching for the first time ever on Connected TVs.

The average figure of 3.378 million was just behind last year’s Tigers victory of 3,524 million and well behind the 2016 Bulldogs victory of 4,089 Million.

National ratings for an AFL Grand Final have not been this low since 2008 when a Geelong/Hawthorn clash delivered a national average of 3,247 million for Seven.

The audience for metro areas averaged 2.601 million in-home viewers and peaked at 3.257 million, with an audience share of 86.4 per cent.

In Melbourne, an average audience of 1.247 million in-home viewers watched the Magpies fall agonisingly short, with the Melbourne audience peaking at 1.454 million.

In Perth, the average audience was 471,000 in-home viewers with the audience peaking at 568,000 as the Eagles won their fourth premiership. The highest peak figure for an AFL match ever in Perth.
