Starring Rachael Blake (Lantana, Sleeping Beauty), Susie Porter (The Monkey’s MaskBetter Than SexTwo Hands), Vince Colosimo (ChopperStingers, The Secret Life Of UsUnderbelly), Martin Sacks (A Place To Call HomeThe CupLove in Limbo) and Susan Prior (The RoverPuberty Blues, Muriel’s Wedding), THE SECOND follows the author of a celebrated erotic memoir, whose newfound success is threatened when her best friend and muse reveals the truth behind the memoir’s provenance, igniting an incendiary tale of sex, lies and betrayal.

Shot last year on location in Jimbour, north west of Brisbane, THE SECOND, from first time feature film director Mairi Cameron, is written and produced by Stephen Lance with Leanne Tonkes as producer. Mind Blowing World is handling the theatrical distribution.

Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk congratulated the Queensland creative team behind the mystery thriller, director Mairi Cameron, writer and producer Stephen Lance, and producer Leanne Tonkes.

“This is a Queensland film through and through and its spectacular drama and storytelling will take Queensland to international audiences. It was shot at Jimbour Station on the Darling Downs; it features music written by a Queensland composer Ryan Walsh and performed by the Queensland Symphony Orchestra; it was written and produced by a Brisbane writer, directed by a Brisbane director, funded through Screen Queensland’s landmark Queensland Originals: Fully Funded Features with Stan initiative, and had its Australian premiere at the Gold Coast Film Festival in April,” she said.

Stan’s Chief Content Officer, Nick Forward said “With a standout cast, a terrific script from Stephen Lance and Mairi Cameron doing such a fantastic job in her feature film directorial debut, we’re hugely proud of The Second. We’re excited to be delivering yet another Australian first with this release strategy, and are grateful to Screen Queensland for their support in bringing The Second to the screen.”

THE SECOND has been selected in the upcoming 2018 Sydney Film Festival, after recently opening this year’s Gold Coast Film Festival, and is the first project developed and produced under Screen Queensland Originals program in partnership with Stan.

THE SECOND joins a growing state of Stan Originals’ award-winning, fresh and diverse dramas and comedies including Romper Stomper; AACTA Award-winning and Logia Award-nominated drama series Wolf Creek; AACTA Award-winning and Logie Award-nominated series No Activity; the US version No Activity, in association with Funny Or Die, Jungle and Gary Sanchez Productions; One Night Stan and The Other Guy.
