It’s been a long time coming, but one of the most requested features for the Foxtel IQ3 has finally arrived with On-Demand content now available to download in High Definition.

Until now, Foxtel’s much maligned IQ3 set-top box has only been capable of downloading catch-up content in Standard Definition. Foxtel put the limitation in place when the box launched in 2015 to ensure the service would be fast and reliable despite Australia’s slow internet speeds.

The restriction also had the benefit of lowering bandwidth costs for Foxtel, and their partner Telstra.

The new On-Demand menu now provides customers the choice of downloading content in Standard or High Definition. The file sizes of HD programs are typically double of the SD option. Telstra and Foxtel Broadband customers can download shows without it affecting their data limits.

While testing the feature over the weekend, DeciderTV found not all downloadable content was available in High Definition.

Frustratingly, top rating dramas such as Game of Thrones and Top of the Lake: China Girl are currently not available, however other titles including Westworld, Ballers, and strangely classic episodes of the sitcom Everyone Loves Raymond were available for the HD upgrade.

Foxtel tells DeciderTV they plan to quickly expand the HD library in coming months.
